Sleep or shut down the device after video creation
The "OS integration" window puts the device to sleep or shuts it down when the export has finished. Before the action, a window with a countdown opens on the screen. Until the countdown ends, the action can be canceled. The setting is for those who leave a long job running overnight and walk away.
Shutdown is forced. What this means
Shutdown closes all open programs without asking to save. There will be no Windows warning window either. The device shuts down immediately.
What this means in practice:
- text you have not saved in an editor will be lost;
- browser tabs with forms will close without asking;
- any other program will close the same way;
- once it fires, there is no way to cancel.
The app itself saves nothing before shutdown and does not close normally. It is closed by the same system command.
Sleep works differently. The device goes to sleep, and the app stays in memory together with the other programs. After waking up, it continues working. There is no separate state restore.
What does not hold the action back
Sleep and shutdown run on a timer. The action is not held back by:
- video creation in another project tab;
- a download in the "ClipSave" window;
- an upload of videos to the server that has not finished yet;
- other programs working on the device.
Finish the work you need before the timer fires. If the system refuses to sleep or shut down, there will be no message on the screen.
How to turn it on
- Open the project and the "Project integrations" window.
- In the "OS integration" card, press "Open".
- In the "After export:" list, pick the option you need.
- Set the "Action timer" in seconds.
- Press "Save".
| List option | What it does |
|---|---|
| "Do nothing" | Nothing happens. This is the default |
| "Put the device to sleep" | After export a timer is shown, then the device goes to sleep |
| "Shut down the device" | After export a timer is shown, then the device shuts down |
"Action timer" is the number of seconds you have to cancel. The default is 10, the limits are from 1 to 99,999,999.
The window does not ask anything when you close it. If you close it with the cross without pressing "Save", the choice is not applied. The timer will not appear after export. The line under the button shows "The settings were saved." or "The settings were not saved".
What the timer looks like
The "Sleep mode" window:
- the header and the window title - "Sleep mode";
- the explanation - "Video creation has finished and your device is going to sleep as set.";
- a large number - seconds until the action, decreasing every second;
- the "Cancel" button;
- the "Sleep now" button.
The "Device shutdown" window works the same way. Its explanation is different: "Video creation has finished and your device is shutting down as set.". The second button is called "Shut down now" and is colored red.
How to cancel
You can cancel only with the "Cancel" button. There are no other ways:
- the window has no close cross;
- Escape does not close the window;
- Enter does not close the window;
- the window stays on top of all windows and blocks the whole app.
Once it fires, there is no way to cancel. The command has already been executed by the operating system, and Windows does not show its own confirmation window.
You can speed up the action with the "Sleep now" or "Shut down now" button.
When the timer will not appear
- The "After export:" list is set to "Do nothing".
- The setting was not saved with the "Save" button.
- You stopped video creation yourself.
The last case is the one most often taken for a fault. The action runs only after the work has finished on its own.
Periodic export: the action after each round
In periodic mode the app goes through the sources again and again and creates videos from the new ones. The action runs after EACH round, not once at the end. Periodic work has no end at all.
In practice this means the device will shut down after the very first round. Periodic mode will end there.
What to do: before starting periodic mode, set the list to "Do nothing".
Failures and what to do
| Title | Text | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Sleep mode" | "Could not put the device into sleep mode.", below it Reason: {error text} | Check whether sleep mode is allowed in the Windows power settings |
| "Device shutdown" | "Could not shut down the device.", below it Reason: {error text} | This is how a work device responds when shutdown is forbidden by the organization's policy. Contact your administrator |
FAQ
The device went into hibernation instead of sleep. Why?
The app makes a standard Windows call. When hibernation is enabled in the system, this call sends the device into hibernation. The app does not check the system state. Turn off hibernation in the Windows settings if you need sleep specifically.
I set the timer to 99,999,999 seconds. What now?
The countdown window will block the app for about three years. Press "Cancel". Then open the "OS integration" window and set a reasonable number, for example 10.
The setting is saved, but the timer did not appear.
Most likely you stopped video creation yourself. The action runs only after the work has finished on its own. The second reason is that the setting was not saved with the "Save" button.
Does the setting apply to all projects?
No. It is saved into the open project. In another project, set it again.
What happens if I am not at the device during the countdown?
The action will run. The countdown is 10 seconds by default. Set a larger number if you want time to get to the device.
Does this setting need the internet?
No. It needs no network, account or money.
