Moving project settings with a CSV or JSON file
Project settings can be saved to one file and loaded back. This is how they are moved to another computer, handed to a colleague or edited in a spreadsheet editor. Both items are in the context menu of the project card. The project must be closed. This page covers both scenarios and what is easiest to break when loading.
Where these two items are
Right-click the project card on the project selection screen. The menu has the items "Save settings to file" and "Load settings from file". There is no other way to call them.
Both items are grayed out while the project is open in a tab. Each has its own reason, and it is written only in the tooltip on the item itself.
The project is open in a tab, so its settings cannot be saved to a file. The file would get the settings stored in the project, not the edits on screen.
Close the tab and save again.
The project is open in a tab, so settings from a file cannot be loaded into it: the edits on screen would overwrite what is loaded.
Close the tab and load again.
How to save settings to a file
- Close the project tab if it is open.
- Right-click the project card.
- Pick "Save settings to file".
- Answer the question about keys: "Without keys" or "Write".
- Pick the format: ".csv file" or ".json file".
- Choose the folder. The suggested name is based on the date, for example
settings_2026-09-06.csv. - Wait for the result message.
The first question looks like this. The buttons: "Without keys", "Write", "Cancel". Enter picks "Without keys".
Write keys, passwords and proxy addresses to the file?
A settings file is an ordinary text file, and everything written in it can be read by any editor. If you pass the file to another user, they will get the keys along with the settings.
Without keys the file stays complete in everything else: when such a file is loaded, the keys in the project stay as they were.
The second question is about the format:
In what form should the settings be saved?
.csv file - a table: opens in a spreadsheet editor, one row per setting.
.json file - a settings tree: handier when the file is edited by an AI assistant.
Writing runs in the background; there is no waiting window. The result comes as a separate message:
194 settings saved.
D:\Backups\settings_2026-09-06.csv
The file contains keys and passwords. Do not pass it on to outsiders.
The last paragraph appears only for a file with keys.
Two formats
A .csv table. One row is one setting. It opens in any spreadsheet editor. The app writes it in UTF-8 with a byte order mark and separates columns with a semicolon. The headers are in Russian and look like this:
Раздел;Название;Активен;От;До;Значение;Допустимо от (не менять);Допустимо до (не менять);Путь в настройках (не менять)
In English: section; name; active; from; to; value; allowed from (do not change); allowed to (do not change); path in settings (do not change).
The column order does not matter, and extra columns do not get in the way. The path column can be deleted entirely: then a row is identified by the pair "Раздел" (section) and "Название" (name). A file without the "Значение" (value) column is not accepted.
When reading, the app also copes with other encodings. Semicolon, comma and tab are accepted as separators.
A .json tree. It is handier when the file is edited by an AI assistant. A bare tree without the service wrapper is accepted too.
What is written to the file
There are 204 such settings in total. In the current build, 194 are written to the file.

What is not in the file:
- the list of imported videos. These are paths on this device, and another computer has no such folders;
- source groups as a whole. The file has only "Sources / Folder for downloaded videos" and "Sources / Delete downloaded videos after creating copies". The groups themselves, the links and the selection conditions are moved by another file - the export of the "Sources" section;
- settings of features that this version of the app does not have;
- the license. It cannot be moved with a settings file.
The created videos counter is written to the file, but not applied back.
How to load settings from a file
The window is called "Loading settings from file" and has two steps.
Step 1, "Pick the file with project settings". Here you choose the mode and the file itself.
- The "What to do with the project settings" drop-down list sets the mode. There are two items, covered in the next section.
- The "Save a sample" button writes a real settings file of this project without keys. This is a convenient way to see what a correct file looks like.
- The "Select file" button opens the system selection window and starts reading right away.
- During reading, the counter "Reading the file, rows: 0" and the "Stop" button are shown.
Step 2, "What will happen". Here you see exactly what will change.
- At the top - the file name, the save date and the version of the app that wrote it.
- Four counters: "Rows in the file", "Settings in the file", "Will change", "Not recognized and rejected".
- Three filter buttons: "Will change", "Matches", "Not accepted". Each is grayed out at zero.
- A table with the columns "Setting", "Was", "Will be". Nothing can be edited in it; the full value is shown in the cell tooltip.
- The "Back", "Cancel" and "Load" buttons.
Until you press "Load", nothing changes in the project.
The sum of the three filters does not match the "Settings in the file" counter. That is expected. In a setting with a range, one limit changes and the other matches. Such a setting is listed in two lists at once.
Two loading modes: how they differ
The mode is chosen in the first step, and it decides the fate of the settings that are not in the file.
| Mode | What happens to the settings from the file | What happens to the rest |
|---|---|---|
| "Change only the ones present in the file" | Replaced with values from the file | "The rest of the project settings stay as they are." |
| "Replace all project settings" | Replaced with values from the file | "Settings missing from the file return to their factory values." |
The second mode is not "load more". Every setting whose row is missing from the file returns to its factory value.
This leads to the consequence that breaks work most often. You opened the file in a spreadsheet editor and deleted extra rows to "load less". In full replace mode you deleted not rows but settings: they will all be reset.
There are exactly four exceptions to the full replace:
- keys, passwords and proxy addresses;
- settings of features that this version of the app does not have;
- the created videos counter;
- the "Remove editing traces" switch. If its row is not in the file, it is turned off, as in projects created before version 1.11.3. This happens with a file saved in version 1.11.2 or earlier. The preview window shows this change as a separate row.
If you want to touch only some of the settings, keep the first mode. It is the default.
An empty cell erases a setting
An empty "Значение" (value) cell is an empty value, not "leave it alone". An erased cell will erase the setting in the project.
"Leave it alone" is a missing row. To keep a setting as it was, delete its whole row, not the cell contents. In full replace mode this rule does not work: there a missing row means a reset to the factory value.
There are two exceptions to the empty cell rule:
- keys with passwords;
- a setting whose value the app could not accept.
Three confirmations when loading
| Window | When it appears | Buttons |
|---|---|---|
| "The file contains keys and passwords" | The selected file has keys. Once per file | "With keys", "Without keys", "Cancel" |
| "Replace all project settings?" | Full replace mode is selected | "Replace", "Cancel" |
| A question about money | The file makes video creation in the cloud at least a tenth more expensive. This also covers switching the project to the cloud if the cloud was not used in it before | "Load", "Cancel" |
In all three windows the default leans toward safety. Enter picks "Without keys", cancels the full replace and declines the price increase.
The text of the full replace question:
Settings that will change: 47.
141 settings will return to their factory values - the file does not have them.
There will be no way to undo this.
Keys, passwords and the created videos counter stay as they are: the file does not have them.
The text of the money question:
After loading, the project will create videos in the cloud, and that is paid: every "Start" takes credits off the balance. Right now the project creates videos on the device and spends no credits.
Check the list of settings if you did not expect this.
The loading result:
188 settings changed in project "My project".
Of those, 141 returned to factory values - the file does not have them.
Moving to another computer
The file can be moved, but three things need attention.
Paths to folders and files. Nine settings store a path on the device where the file was saved. These are the folder for saving videos and the folder for downloaded videos. These are the watermark file, the additional videos and the additional audio files. These are the VideoGen folder, the ClipSave folder and the ClipSave cookies file. Another computer has no such paths: the project looks configured but refuses to work. The preview window shows such rows as a separate warning:
The file has paths to folders and files from another device. Check them after loading:
Keys, passwords and addresses. There are seven of them. A file without keys erases nothing, even in full replace mode. A file with keys contains them as plain text. Someone else's key breaks nothing visible: the project keeps working, but through someone else's proxy and at someone else's expense.
Graphics card codec. If the file has a graphics card codec selected and this device has no such graphics card, the app takes a regular codec. There will also be a warning about this in the preview.
A file written by an earlier version of the app can be read. A refusal happens with a file written under a newer format number: this only happens if the file format changes in a future version.
Editing the file by hand
- A list inside a cell is written with line breaks, not commas. In a spreadsheet editor this is Alt+Enter.
- Before values that start with
=,+,@or a tab, the app puts an apostrophe itself. This way the spreadsheet editor does not take them for a formula. The apostrophe is removed when loading. - A fractional number instead of a whole one is rejected, not rounded.
- A percent sign and units of measure in a cell are an error.
- A value longer than 65,536 characters is written to the file in full, but not accepted back.
- A file larger than 20 MB is not read. No more than 20,000 rows are read.
A refusal of one row does not cancel the others. The window shows the reason for each refusal in the table together with the row numbers, for example "The value is not a number - rows 5, 6, 9 and 12 more".
FAQ
Why are the menu items gray?
The project is open in a tab. Close it and try again.
Why were settings I did not touch reset after loading?
The "Replace all project settings" mode was selected. It returns everything that is not in the file to factory values. Load the settings again in "Change only the ones present in the file" mode.
The "Load" button is gray. What should I do?
Nothing in the project will change from this file. The reason is written under the table. There are three possible reasons. First: all settings from the file are already set in the project. Second: none of the settings from the file was accepted. Third: not everything was read, and what was read matched the project.
Can source links be moved with a file?
No. Source groups are moved by their own export of the "Sources" section. The section is covered on the Sources page.
Can the license be moved with a file?
No. It is not in the settings file at all.
The file is saved, but it has fewer settings than I expected
Check your answer to the first question. With the "Without keys" answer, seven settings with keys and passwords are not written to the file.
